I want to share with you some of my favorite ways to be cool this summer in Green Cove Springs.
In the Swings
Even though I can’t take our cool porch swing to the St. Johns river front, these cool comfortable, sturdy swings along the river walk are almost even better!
In the Pool
Chemical free Spring fed pool
Pool overlooks St Johns River
One of my favorite places to be cool this summer is across the street in the Chemical-Free Spring-Fed Pool.
The cool water, a constant 77 degrees, flows at about 1300 gallons a minute from a cavern that is 28 feet deep right across the street from the inn.
The water is really cool because it is so rich in minerals. It was well known for its healing properties since the late 1800’s when wealthy tourists wintered here.
From the pool the water is carried under a foot bridge out into the St. Johns River.
I love the walkway under the cool shade of these giant moss covered oak trees along the charming stream called Spring Run that carries that 1300 gallon a minute outflow from the pool to the St. Johns River. On the St. Johns River
On the St. Johns River
The cool city pier on the St. Johns River can be seen from the river’s edge with a shady gazebo in the middle which is a favorite cool place to fish on a warm afternoon.
If boating is your cool thing, the end of the pier has boat slips with electricity and water hook-ups. The cost is affordable at only 20.00 per night collected by the City of Green Cove Springs. If you don’t stay aboard your boat you can just walk across the park for dinner at one of several locally owned restaurants and then stay at the River Park Inn for a comfortable night and a full hot breakfast in the morning.
Sometimes its fun to just take a blanket down to sit on the riverbank and enjoy the cool evening breeze!
At the Overlook
Schedule your next event at this cool covered gazebo overlooking the pool and the St. Johns River. The overlook offers a great place to meet friends and enjoy the scenery.
Gazebo Overlooking Pool
Overlook with a great view of the pool and St. Johns River
There are several other cool gazebos along the riverfront too. My favorite was constructed several decades ago by Friends of the Park.
It is also cool to see at sunrise!
Food Truck Friday is Cool!
Be cool one Friday night a month and bring your favorite adult beverage to enjoy the river breezes, live music and food truck dinners in the river front park on the St. Johns but come early … it gets a little crowded.
Food Truck Friday is a popular monthly event in Green Cove Springs
At the Splash Pad in Any Season
The splash pad is the coolest thing of all with free access year round. At night the colored LED lighting makes it irresistible!
Convinced? There is no cooler place to be than Green Cove Springs in the Summer and there is no cooler place to stay than the River Park Inn, just a short walk to the park, the pool the river and all of these very cool experiences.
