I kept wondering why I was seeing all these Black Friday ads. Isn’t Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving? Then I looked at the calendar and guess what next Thursday is? Guess that explains the ads!
I should have known though. All the trees are being placed in Spring Park, 106 Walnut Street, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. Right across from River Park Inn. Put the address in your GPS now and make plans to come see the Parade of Trees this year. It is the first time we have had them on the hillside around the pool since the new pool was finished. The adoptions have been underway for several weeks and they will be decorated the week after Thanksgiving in time for the Christmas Parade on December 2.
December 2 the first Saturday in December, is when Santa comes and the holiday season in Green Cove Springs officially begins. The Parade, proceeding down Magnolia Avenue, will usher Santa in beginning at 2 pm. After the parade there will be pictures with Santa in Spring Park and the city tree will be lit as soon as it becomes dark enough.
This is a time when people come together and the Parade of Trees is a meaningful display loved by all. It will be here all through the holidays until the first of the new year. The best time is at dusk to take pictures and still see the placards for the dedications. Trees are each dedicated; some to loved ones who have passed, some to those on deployment who can’t be home for the holidays, others are decorated by non profits, schools and businesses.
This is something the whole family will enjoy in a peaceful, meaningful way. Stay in town a little longer and enjoy some delicious Mexican at LaCasita or a fine pizza at D’Fontana where they also have a full Italian menu.
Over the holidays consider using River Park Inn as your hub as you expand your travel, perhaps to the Nights of Lights in St Augustine just 30 minutes away. And get your shopping done at the St. Augustine Outlet Mall that is only 20 miniutes from here and on the way to St. Augustine.
